Conclusion

I have found difficulty and strong opposition of my own brain when coming up with new blogs upon the subject of procrastination. I find myself also resorting to procrastination in these times of weakness; but seeing as this is my last post I can honestly say that I have conquered my procrastination. I have finished all 3 of my major projects that I set out to do and I am graduating this Friday. Thanks for reading and keep to these steps or else you'll turn into a jagaloon.

Surrounding Yourself with Workers

If you have a major project to do and plan on enlisting the help of friends, make sure you enlist the workers. Surrounding yourself with lazy bums is a terrible way to go about work. Time for those bums you have come to love can be acquired; just make sure you get your work done first. Me and my friend Tyler have our own business in which we normally do lawn work. I work with Tyler because he will not take a break until the job is done, and I have adapted to that style of working myself. Lazy bum friends come later, work friends come first.

Repercussions of Procrastination

Procrastination isn't just laziness, it has a strong negative effect on major aspects of life. If you procrastinate with work, chores or even exercise then you will find yourself getting obese, making quick fatty foods because you are too lazy to make healthy foods and living in a filthy home. Until recently my room has been a complete mess, I recall seeing a hobo midst my dirty clothes. I have decided that I can only have clothes laying around no more than 2 days. This gives me a comfortable bracket of time to get this chore done if I am busy for a few days. Or just have your girlfriend/boyfriend clean up your clothes if she/he offers; it couldn't hurt.

Look to the Future

This past week I have questioned why I should even do this blog. What helped me get through these processes was looking to the future. I have touched upon doing this in earlier posts but I haven't delved into it as well as I should. Whatever work you may be doing, there will come a time when you ask, "Whats the point?". Well, the point is this: life is what you put into it. I have accepted that if I keep moving at such a lazy pace I will have nothing to support me or a possible family in the future. Embrace the fact that if you want to have a career and a happy life, you will have to work yourself past what you want to do.

My Progress

These past few days of purging my procrastination have passed by with some difficulty. As I was writing this, my friend Cody distracted me for a good 15 minutes, causing me to procrastinate. I have had a very hard time adapting to these changes that I have undergone; but I have had many rewards along the way. I finished a 30 page paper on the history of Middle-Eastern and Asian governments and culture in the time bracket that I had aimed for. I have almost finished my blog project after a few days in the midst of strong adversity (prom, work, etc). To say that this process has been easy would be a lie, but to say this process has helped me would be a tremendous truth.

Relapse

The dreaded relapse. For most individuals this means using a drug that will more than likely end in your death; but for us it means you will start being lazy again. If you do relapse, there are ways to get back on track. Ask yourself, "do I want to be a dreamer, or be the one living the dream?". I myself have spent so much time thinking about everything I want to accomplish; but I literally cannot complete these goals with the level of laziness I have grown accustomed to. If that in itself is not enough to get you back on track, look at close friends or family and look at their work ethics and various awards and accomplishments. Allow yourself to get jealous, because if you are jealous then you have taken your first step into getting back on track for work and projects. I could give you a list of "helpful" tips that I would just look up and copy on here, but I feel as if they are too weak. They don't really have impact. I know my suggestions hit hard because they worked on me and can hopefully work for anyone.

Planning a Schedule.

Planning the schedule is the most critical aspect to recovering from your condition. Without doing this could end in your demise. So the best way to go about planning this schedule would be to plan to do work, but not to over-work yourself. You are easing into a new style of living, quitting the laziness cold turkey won't cut it. You have to give yourself room to adapt. My schedule could be an example and is as follows: Sunday: Family Day/Recuperation, Monday: Work from after school until 8, Tuesday: Work from after school until 8, Wednesday: Free Day, Thursday: Work from after school until 7:30, Friday: Free Day, Saturday: Get any big projects done that need to be done; then treat yourself to a reward. Acquiring the reward on Saturday is dire to my schedule's success; along with a little bit of a shorter work day on Thursday. These rewards will allow you to keep to your work schedule as if it was some sort of procrastinatory detox.

Discipline

Once one has accepted that they procrastinate, they should go about steps for disciplining themselves so they don't fall back into the painful loop of putting off work. I personally got the help of my girlfriend; every time I don't get work done by a certain time or date I will not get any food if we go out. My main diet consists of pizza, and the idea that I will not be able to receive pizza if we go out to a pizza place terrifies me. So this kind of discipline works out fairly well. That is not the only kind of discipline at one's disposal though; congratulate yourself whenever you follow through with work. Order your favorite food that night, go out to see a movie, buy a pony! Whatever you think you deserve (within reason), get it.

P.S. This kind of reinforcement is positive reinforcement. Used by many classic psychologists.

Acceptance

I think of myself as a fairly intelligent individual, but I lack in an educational drive. What I mean by that is that almost all homework I don't finish in class (that is if I even do it in class) I will not end up finishing. I ace most tests but I am certainly not determined in doing busy work. This post is being made 5 minutes after my very first post and in that time I have developed an algorithm that is so in-depth that it couldn't possibly have been made already. It helps myself push through my procrastination; the algorithm is: planning a schedule. Since I have less than a week to finish 3 major projects I have planned my time for the next week very well. I thought only jagaloons used calendars but I find that they are quite helpful in planning your work but still leaving free-time that us procrastinators so desperately strive for.

Finally Starting a Blog that should have been started over 12 weeks ago.

Procrastination. This word has been gripping me every step of my senior year. I have finally convinced myself that working is the way to go. I would say that in these next few weeks I would post my progress but with the looming due date of next Tuesday my posts will be developed at a near industrial rate. I will start my next post with the first step of any problem that must be fixed: acceptance. I should probably let my viewers know that I took part in procrastination while making this post.
